Vidya Balan in MMS row

December 27, 2006 at 4:59 am | In BollyWood, News | Leave a Comment

After the smashing success of Lage Raho Munnabhai , Vidya Balan has been caught in an ugly row.

According to the recent buzz, a one-minute hot video clip of a woman, bearing close resemblance to Vidya, is doing the rounds on the Internet and on MMS-enabled mobile phones in Chennai.

However, sources close to the heroine of Parineeta fame have been quick to debunk the video as morphed or fake.

Whether morphed or look alike, the MMS clip is doing rounds among the youngsters in Chennai.

According to youngsters who regularly received such clips, they prefer MMS clips of actors and famous models.

In the past, Mallika Sherawat and Preity Zinta too had MMSs of their look-alikes doing the rounds and a MMS had also come to the fore which allegedly showed Kareena Kapoor and Shahid Kapur smooching.

When contacted, Sanjay, secretary to Vidya, said, ‘‘She (Vidya) is busy shooting here (in Mumbai) and does not want to react to this. The issue is totally irrelevant to her and we do not want to encourage any discussion on the topic.’’

Vidya’s forthcoming flicks include Salaam-e-Ishq and Eklavya .

John-Vidya affair? All smoke, no fire! Who is next???

December 27, 2006 at 4:57 am | In BollyWood | Leave a Comment

Recently, the chemistry between actors John Abraham and Vidya Balan became the grist for rumour mills.

Let’s admit it. If two co-stars have some steamy scenes in a film, the gossipmongers have a knack to link them up. It has happened with Akshay Kumar and Priyanka Chopra , Emraan Hashmi and Celina Jaitley and many more stars. John and Vidya happen to be the latest target.

The two are playing lovers in Nikhil Advani’s movie Salaam-e-Ishq . While filming for the movie, John and Vidya shared very good chemistry, which is evident in the promotional stills of the scenes showing them together. Some rumours even said that while shooting for a scene in which John and Vidya hide themselves under a dupatta, the two stayed under the dupatta for good many seconds even after the director had called ‘cut’.

While such canards have only fuelled the rumours further, Vidya has expressed her displeasure at such gossip-talk. John, on the other hand, has made public appearances with his longtime girlfriend Bipasha Basu to drive home the point that he is still with Bips.

Vidya says she just wants to focus on her work as she has some big movies coming up.

Vidya is presently a part of three big movies : Mani Ratnam’s Guru , Vidhu Vinod Chopra’s Eklavya and Nikhil Advani’s ‘Salaam-e-Ishq’.

Asha and Friends

It’s a new age sound with the effervescence of the traditional right-sounding music. The famous singer Asha Bhonsle, has got in tune with some of the best known achievers from various fields who aren’t often heard singing…. to come up with a music album called ‘Asha & Friends’.

Produced by Mauj, the project boasts of names like Sanjay Dutt, Brett Lee, Urmila Matondkar, the Sa Re Ga Ma Pa Lil’ Champs and some more surprises… Composed and conceptualized by Shamir Tandon, these celebrities have taken singing beyond the cameos. The songs are being distributed by Virgin Records (India) Pvt Ltd.

Arun Gupta, CEO of Mauj says, “Mauj has always been an innovator in the arena of entertainment and digital lifestyle. We are extremely happy to partner with a legend – Asha Bhonsle – to produce an exciting and fun album.”

Bhonsle is very excited about the project. “I thought of Sanjay Dutt after seeing Munnabhai MBBS. I realised there were some portions in the songs which he sang himself. He has a bass voice, which is important for male singers. He has the right sense of tune and melody,” she says.

As for Brett Lee, Asha says that though many people knew that he sang, it was only after Tandon contacted him that he was willing. “He was very excited about singing with me, and couldn’t believe I was more than double his age,” says Bhonsle.

Tandon, the project’s conceptualiser and composer, says: “Asha & Friends is an idea I have been living with for the past three years. It was always my idea to do seven duets of Ashaji with seven other voices. When I approached her, she tweaked the idea a bit and felt that instead of regular singers, we should feature well-known people from all walks of life… people who can sing, but are not known for their singing.”

Tandon says it was a huge challenge to create a balance between a legend like Asha and celebrities who were not regular singers. “But Asha’s choice of singers is fantastic, and the project has turned out very well,” he adds.

Sanjay Dutt, for instance, came on board because he could not refuse Ashaji. But then he has loved singing with his friends and family as well. “She is such a big singer. How could I even say no to her?” was his refrain.

Aussie pace bowler Brett Lee, who was down in India for the Champions Trophy, also loved her singing and agreed to sing with her even though he had earlier refused other offers in India. “She is phenomenal. For her age of 73, she sings like a youngster,” says Lee.

It won’t be long before some of these non-singers too in Asha’s album realise their potential and cut their own albums as well. Till then, let us listen to ‘Asha and Friends’

No to Irfan pathan and another chance to Wasim Jaffer:Not fair

December 26, 2006 at 12:10 pm | In Sports | 1 Comment

Its a shame for Cricket India that Irfan Pathan has returned to India due to his poor form of bowling in South Africa.Thats injustice done to him. In this case they should also have sent back Wasim Jaffer who too is totally out of form(Sorry… He was never in form).

What i would like to say is that Irfan Pathan was the top scorer in both the innings against the Rest of South Africa XI. Eventhough he was in a poor form in bowling, he was performing well in batting. Thats not fair to be dropped from the tour. What Wasim Jaffer has performed in this series? What the Indian Cricket management want to prove here by giving one more chance tO Wasim Jaffer? He neither performed well either in one day series or 1 test match . Why do they want to give one more chance ?

Instead they can give chance to Gautham Gambhir or Irfan Pathan (Who can be a little bit aggressive) and also can add some total to Team India. Gautham Gambhir who played well in practice game should have been selected ahead of Wasim Jaffer. Unfortunately, he has to wait for one more match to get into the team!!!

Shane Warne strikes 700th wicket

December 26, 2006 at 11:59 am | In Sports | 1 Comment

Shane Warne who has announced his retirement after Ashes 2007 from all forms of internaional and domestic cricket has achieved a great unique feat by picking up the wicket of Andrew Strauss on the first day of the 4th test of the Ashes series before his home crowd t the Melbourne Cricket Ground.

Wow what a great achievement by Warne who has become the first bowler to take 700 wickets in test. The master Australian leg-spinner bowled England opener Andrew Strauss with a leg-break with the second ball of his fourth over to trigger a huge roar from the near-capacity crowd. And then used his experience to all out England and claimed yet another 5 wicket haul in Test Cricket. He is the greatest bowler of all time and he will be always missed by the world of cricket.

Soha Ali Khan gets award in Kangana’s absence at Sabsey Favourite Kaun Awards

December 22, 2006 at 4:33 am | In BollyWood, News | 1 Comment

Its sad to hear that at Sabsey Favourite Kaun awards function Kangana’s award was given to Soha Ali Khan due to the former’s absence at that time.

As for Soha, just how she qualifies, as a new face after being in the industry for two years, is a question only the awards committee can answer.

Kangana, who was told she had been picked for the Sabsey Favourite Nayi heroine of the year, is both humoured and horrified.

“I was told I was getting the award for Sabsey Favourite Nayi heroine. I got delayed in the traffic. When I reached the venue I could hear Shah Rukh’s name being announced. Obviously my category had already passed,” Kangana said.

“I was told to stay on and that my trophy would be sent to me at home. I sat through the rest of the function without knowing that my award had been given to someone else. I didn’t even know Soha got the award until a friend phoned to say so. It’s rather sad and funny,” said Kangana, who made an impressive debut with Gangster – A Love Story this year.

Kangana refuses to take the matter seriously.

“It’s okay. I like Soha a lot. They probably needed a presence on stage. It doesn’t look nice to give the award to an absentee winner. I’m sure I’ll have many other opportunities.”

This is injustice done to kangana. She acted very well in Gangster – A Love Story and she really deserved the award. But due to her absence giving the award to Soha Ali Khan is not a fair decision. Is this the respect they give to the talented newcomers  ???

SRK(King Khan) works hard for KBC

December 22, 2006 at 4:09 am | In BollyWood, News, Preview | 1 Comment

Ever since Shah Rukh Khan has been chosen to host Kaun Banega Crorepati 3 (KBC 3) , he has been seen working hard to earn the name and fame as Amitabh bachan once did. Who knows he may earn more than what amitabh achieved. This will only be seen when SRK comes on the silverscreen.

Waiting anxiously to see the performance of SRK on silverscreen. Whether he will use the same phrases as Amithabh used or will it be in his own style. Lets see what he uses.

It has been heard that SRK has, for now, postponed acting to concentrate more on KBC 3, which seems to me will be a huge hit on the silver screen. I also see that he will be more busy this New Year than ever. One part of his bungalow, Mannat, has been converted into a virtual set so that King Khan gets ample time to do his homework by practicing with dummy contestants – some of them are his celebrity friends – Farah Khan,Karan Johar for instance.

“I’m going to make a lot of virtual love to the computer,” quipped Shah Rukh Khan.

Shah Rukh Khan’s KBC is set to hit the airwaves early next year.Waiting for it!!!

YouTube provides proof to nab murder suspect

A video posted on the ultra-popular website YouTube has helped Canadian police find a man they believe responsible for a murder.

Police in the Southern Ontario city of Hamilton said on Thursday that they uploaded a one-minute, 12-second clip from a surveillance tape onto the video-sharing YouTube site.

The video, which showed suspects arriving at a local nightclub for a Sean Price hip-hop concert, garnered media attention and was viewed more than 30,000 times.

“This is the first time Hamilton police have utilised video web posting in an investigation, and to the best of its knowledge, the first time that law enforcement has ever used it as a direct investigative tool,” Staff Sgt. Jorge Lasso told a news conference. Continue reading YouTube provides proof to nab murder suspect…

Bharadwaj Rangan’s interview with Gautham

December 21, 2006 at 9:53 am | In Interviews, kollywood, movies | Leave a Comment

Bharadwaj Rangan has written about a long, very interesting interview with Gautham, the director of Minnale, Kaakka Kaakka and Vettaiyaadu Vilaiyaadu. Rangan always lets the person do the talking, with only a few comments here and there. So we get almost a monologue by the person instead of the usual, restrictive Q & A format. That’s the way he has done it with Gautham too and it has led the director to open up about a lot of things.

Some interesting tidbits from the interview…

Gautham Menon had to drop the Menon from his name since the Minnale producer said that there was something against Malayalis in the Tamil film industry!

He talks a lot about his next film Pachaikkili Muthucharam, with Sarathkumar (who is cast against type) and Jo. He calls it an adaptation of Derailed but the book and not the movie(hope the book was good then since the movie sucked!). He did want to do it with Kamal first but approached Sarath after Kamal said no. He explains the very poetic title as pearls falling off and scattering being similar to what happens in life when someone comes in and scatters the lives of a happy family. He calls it a “Balu Mahendra-meets-Quentin Tarantino kind of film.”

He apparently labelled at least one leading actor as “stupid” and said another star’s films are “idiotic.” Wish Rangan could tell me who those actors are :-)

He worked as an assistant director to Rajiv Menon in Minsaara Kanavu.

His original script for Minnale was very different and was about 2 friends falling for the same girl. He now calls the film juvenile and cliched!

He approached Maddy, Ajith and Vikram for the lead role in Kaakka Kaakka. Turns out it was Jo who recommended Surya to Gautham. He is interested in making a trilogy of cop films and says he may make a third film with Vikram in the future.

Kamal is probably the most experimental among our heroes today. But Gautham says he had to make concessions for Kamal too in Vettaiyaadu Vilaiyaadu. He wasn’t even there when they shot the sequences for Uyirile… and Neruppe…!

He says his appearance in his films so far was because of circumstances and that he may not make it a trend.

He gives a broad outline of Vaaranam Aayiram, his next film with Surya. Looks like it might be a message-oriented film with patriotic shades.
